Setting defaults that aren't stored in a scene

Wondering if I need to dig deep into some setting file or something for this, as these behaviors seems totally random-

  • Which of these 3 tabs are selected when bouncing around the interface? 99% of the time I want it to land on the middle Position tab, and there doesn’t seem any way to make that happen? image

  • Which of the three move tool options are activated by default? 99% of the time its fine to just have all 3 on, and I can use the shortcut keys to turn them off if needed. Its a well designed widget, so there’s no problem with having all the options activated for the most part.

  • The default behavior in the Project Camera pane is a single click activation, is there a way to make that the same for the camera list in the Scene Tree Display? The objects in the scene tree only need a single click to activate (double to edit material which is AWESOME) so would be nice to match that behavior.

  • And the long standing request to get rid of this and JUST AUTOSAVE! Maybe make it if I click this damn YES button 5 times, just assume that I want to save all the time, and make that the default. There is already a backup/versioning function built in, with selectable # of revisions to be able to go back to, so just save  Please

  • Leave the Toolbar at the top in Color mode. No real reason to move it to the lower right, just keep it where it is in the layout.

Think that’s it for now, I tend to pile these up until i have a list and then post them

Cheers!

First off, thanks a lot for the feedback!

As I’m sure you are aware, many settings in KeyShot are not customizable by the user. This has been an active choice made to keep the settings simple and concise. If a setting is greatly needed, it’s of course always something that can be discussed.

  1. Scene Page Option Tabs The selected tab should, in general, be the previously selected tab. I think the problem you’re observing is that not all scene item types have the same tabs. This means that if you’ve selected Position when switching from a geometry (which has Properties, Position, and Materials) to a camera (which only has Properties and Materials), then the selected tab will change to Properties (because there is no Position tab). Then if you switch back to the geometry, the Properties tab will still be selected. Is this the behavior that’s frustrating? Would it be better if it remembered the tab per scene item type? I imagine that could cause some frustration as well, though.

  2. Move Tool Default Right now, the intended behavior is to show the previously activated buttons. This should be remembered across sessions. By default, I think it’s Translate and Rotate that are activated until the user makes any changes to that.

  3. Single Click Cameras I don’t think this is possible at the moment, I’m afraid. Again if its greatly needed, it’s of course something that can be discussed :).

  4. Make Save Remember the Last Clicked Option This is a good idea. I think the main reason for this not being automatic is that some customers have very large scenes that take a long time to save. This means that it’s very disruptive in those cases if we just save automatically. I’m not entirely sure why there’s not a ‘remember’ option for this, but that’s a great idea! I’ll talk to the team regarding this.

  5. Toolbar at the Top in Color Mode I see your point regarding the toolbar in Color Mode. I believe the main reasoning for this was that some options belong in the top toolbar and some in the bottom toolbar. The Color Mode top and bottom toolbars took a lot of space while being a bit empty, so we decided to merge the two toolbars rather than having very sparse top and bottom toolbars.

I hope I answered everything!

Best Regards
